A different world

DSCN8600.JPG

I’ve been extremely busy. I have been in Langkawi, assisting my father in law who is running a holiday homes.

Even juggling in between cooking, housekeeping, laundry, PR-ing, purchasing and translations, my heart can’t help but to think and grieve with the people of Palestine .. and of course missing my Belovd Other Half.

I am blogging from here .. a serene and peaceful place, where everybody seems jovial and tolerant .. a completely different world from the Strips of Gaza.

Effective Reading

It all started with the word, "read!"

In Islam there are many benefits of reading. Education, civilization and reciprocal partnerships rest on the ability to read.

Reading is a multi-dimensional cognitive process of decoding symbols for the purpose of deriving meaning (reading comprehension) and/or constructing meaning. Written information is received by the retina, processes by the primary visual cortex, and interpreted in Wernicke’s area (Wikipedia).

Most of us know how to read, but are we really reading? Reading is not as simple as we might have thought and it is deeper than we ever could have ever imagined.

This is one of the most outstanding post I have ever read about effective reading for all of us, especially fellow academicians who are tangoing with thesis et al. Written by Brian Clark; an A-List blogger, a talented writer, and one of the founding editors over at Copyblogger. Below is an excerpt:

Reading can make you a better writer, as long as you’re paying attention and leaving time to actually write. But what we’re talking about here is what you say, rather than how you say it.
